The project installed one General Electric 6FA gas turbines operating in open cycle. This involved the transport of the turbine and the generator from the Chilean port of Arica to Santa Cruz through the Andes over a 6,000 meter pass. At the time this was the heaviest load ever taken across the Andes into Bolivia. The turbine nominal capacity of 71 MW increased the plant capacity in Santa Cruz.
