Previous Project

Guaracachi, Santa Cruz, Bolivia

  • Type: CCGT conversion
  • Size: 96 MW
  • Start date: 2007
  • Status: Commissioning for October 2010 CER application UN registered

The project comprises the conversion of two General Electric 6FA gas turbines currently operating in open cycle mode to combined cycle. This involves the installation of two heat recovery steam generating boilers which utilize the waste heat from the gas turbine to raise steam. The steam will be used to generate electricity using an associated steam turbine of 68 MW capacity with over-firing taking the gross capacity to 96 MW. The project pioneered the UN methodology for the application of Carbon Credits to combined cycle conversion. The project was registered in [2008] and the Carbon Credits were sold under a forward contract.
