In September 2002, IPC took over the management of some 475 MW of coal-fired installed capacity in Kazakhstan as part of a buy-out of Karaganda Power Company by Integrated Energy Limited, a power generation investment company. This role as Technical Operator of Karaganda TETS 1 and TETS 3 was approved by both the Government of Kazakhstan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Both plants were operated by IPC’s O&M subsidiary, IPOL, which also ran the Karaganda Electricity Distribution System, Karaganda Zhylu, serving 400,000 customers.
